Profile
Dr. Laura Truell is an associate professor in the Sport Management major, which is housed within the Department of Economics and Business. Before joining the Erskine faculty in 2019, she served in a similar role at James Madison University and the University of South Carolina. She was the recipient of the teacher of the year award for the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management in her second year of teaching at the University of South Carolina.
At Erskine, Dr. Truell teaches most course offerings within Sport Management including Sport Marketing, Event Management, Sport Ethics, Economics and Finance of Sport, and Athletic Administration. Her areas of research and specialization include corporate sponsorship and event management.
Industry Experience
Dr. Truell’s industry experiences have included directing the Olympic trials for the women’s marathon in 2000, as well as numerous events at both the national and local levels. She also worked with the Denver Broncos as manager of their stadium emergency actions team (SEAT). In the corporate sector, she worked with Coca-Cola Consolidated, Monster.com, and SCANA. Ultimately, she returned to full-time teaching because of her love for students.
Personal Interests
A lifelong South Carolinian, Dr. Truell was born in Newberry and raised in Columbia. She resides in Gilbert with her husband, Randy, and their Siberian Huskies. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, reading, and watching and discussing sports.
